What is a solar charger?

Simply put; you know all of the devices we use in everyday life our mobile phones, televisions items we use for travelling or camping such as GPS systems and smaller fridges. Well, that’s where a solar charger comes into play. A solar charger employs solar energy to supply electricity to devices or charge batteries; without the need to be plugged into the ‘grid’ or mains supply. Most solar chargers are portable and the team at SollarMe has a great selection of these chargers available.  They can charge various types of batteries but generally Solar chargers can charge lead acid or Ni-Cd battery banks up to 48 V and hundreds of ampere-hours capacity; depending on the type and size of charger that you buy.  A series of solar cells are installed in a stationary location (ie: rooftops of homes, base-station locations on the ground etc.) and can be connected to a battery bank to store energy for off-peak usage. They can also be used in addition to mains-supply chargers for energy saving during the daytime.

What can I use a solar charger for?

There are many uses for solar chargers for example they’re a great way to keep a backup charger in your backpack for when you’re out and about. This means perhaps when you’re in a park and you run out of battery on your phone and within no time at all you have charged your battery through the helpful hand of the sun. There are other great uses such as when camping they can be used to power small electrical items such as phones, tv’s, GPS systems and other camping appliances.
